Description
The Ackley Bridge is a historic wood covered bridge that spans 75 feet and is located at GreenField Village / Henry Ford Museum in Michigan, Joshua & David Clouse built the bridge in Pennsylvania in 1832 - Ox Teams hauled that Timber to the site where 100 men worked on building the bridge.
During that time the native Indians were not happy with the bridge being built as they seen the bridge as an incursion into their lands and fired rifle balls and arrows at the bridge, the Solidly built bridge survived that and flooding in 1902 - it stood for 102 years before it was on list the be demolished then Henry Ford Was notified by the Ackley Family that Henry Ford was looking for a Historic Old Wood Bridge for GreenField Village .
The bridge was dismantled in 1937 and was built at Greenfield village in 1938 and is one of the oldest Historic Wood Covered Bridges in America today.
