Description
Enrico Fermi Nuclear Power Plant, owned by DTE Energy is a nuclear Power Plant on the Shore of Lake Erie, Michigan. Construction on two units started in 1956 and reached initial Criticality on August 23, 1893, The second unit reached Cricicality June 26,1985 and was declared Commercial on November 18,1988. the Cooling source is Lake Erie.
The Plant is named after the Italian nuclear physicist Enrico Fermi, most noted for his work on the development of the first nuclear reactor as well as many other contributions to nuclear physics. Fermi won the 1938 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on induced radioactivity.
October 5,1966, Fermi I, a prototype Fast Breeder reactor, suffered a partial fuel meltdown, and was shutdown by 1972.
Fermi 2 a General electric Boiling water Reactor announced plans were made in July ,1968 and reached Initial Criticality was achieved July ,1985 and commercial operation commenced Jan 23rd,1988.
I found out shortly after heading towards the edge of bay on the horizon, when i was half way across the bay in front of the power plant, that a alarm went off and was warned to leave the area at once and i Paddled south to Brest Bay on Lake Erie and Ran into terrible Lake Condition at Stony Point, which only God delivered me through the high Waves crashing on the rocky shoreline and current, Thank you Heavenly Father for being with me always during trouble, Amen.
