Description
The Big Sable Point Light is a lighthouse on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan near Ludington in mason County, Michigan, at the Ludington State Park.
The Big Sable Lighthouse was built in 1867 out of Cream City Brick, later encased in Cast Iron Plate. the Tower Shape is Frustum of a Cone.and the Markings are White and Black/Black parapet & Lantern. The Tower is 112 feet, The Original Lens was a Third order Fresnel Lens and currently the lighthouse has a 12-inch (300 mm) ML-300 Tideland Signal acrylic optic, with the range of 15 nautical miles.
The cost to build the lighthouse in 1866 was $35,000.
